    Description

    Peruvian Chancay Doll
Man with Kena Flute - RARE - Similar dolls are usually female.
    Perfect Condition.
Amazing workmanship! Good example of gauze weaving on back.
    Height - 8.5 inches apx.
Vintage - This doll was purchased from a reliable dealer in ethnic folk art  in Washington DC over 50 years ago.
Sometimes contemporary dolls are fraudulently sold as antiques, but often Andean artisans maintain the connection to their past and sell them as a contemporary style of folk art that has ancient roots. These dolls represent a blurring of the line between the past and the present.
    -      Chancay dolls such as this were sold as souvenirs in Peru in the 1960s.
