The dolls' clothing is repurposed from a vintage, traditional piece of Andean clothing called a “manta” (woven cotton/wool blend). Mantas were used to carry a baby on the back, and the fabric was woven on a loom using complex and difficult weaving techniques. Due to its complexity, this technique is no longer widely practiced, and is common in only one community in the Cusco region. Each doll is unique, and contains the beautiful, traditional patterns, colors, and designs of the mantas.
