Artifact Info: PreColumbian, South Coast Peru, Chimu, 1100AD-1400AD. A matching pair of silver ear spools (ear ornaments) made from high-grade (92-94%) ancient silver, depicting birds. By wearing these highly valuable ear spools in ancient times, their owner would have connected themselves to the power of their avian forms; possibly worn by royalty or a high status individual due to the artifacts being made of precious metal.
Details: The front of each spool consists of an open work applique depicting a pair of flying birds surrounded by a border of raised stippling (beading). Each applique is applied to the top of a closed cylindrical body which could be worn and secured with the raised back rim. The silver is thin and the artistic work is stunning. Size: One is slightly larger than the other, however, each approximately 1.6 inches Diameter; total weight: 19.2 grams. Custom display stand included with your purchase as a courtesy, size on stand is 5.1 inches H.
Condition: Slight bending to overall forms, with minor nicks, cracks and abrasions to rims, birds, and bodies, and light encrustations within some recessed areas, otherwise intact and excellent. Great patina throughout, condition commensurate with age.
