    Description
    1964 Dodge Dart
The Dart is a line of automobiles marketed by Dodge from the 1959 to 1976 model years in North America, with production extended to later years in various other markets. The Dart name originally appeared on a 1956 Chrysler show car featuring a streamlined body designed by the Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Ghia that was later modified and renamed the Dart Diablo. The production Dart was introduced as a lower-priced, full size Dodge in 1960 and 1961, became a midsize car for 1962, and then was a compact from 1963 to 1976. The Dart was an instant market success, with 1963 sales up sharply compared to those of the 1962 Lancer and remained popular through the end of its production run in 1976.
For consignment, a Dodge Dart that was built to be driven. Our consignor wasn't afraid to drive this car, be it all over the central Atlantic region, New England, and even to our great white neighbor to the north, Canada. Designed as a compact grocery getter one can see the beginnings of the muscle car era starting to form in the body lines and faux hood scoop. Our consignor saw the same and took efforts to keep the Medium Blue body true to form along with the interior but stepped the game up under the hood and added on some snazzy rally wheels to show you how Mother Mopar should have done it.
    Exterior
Drenched in the correct Medium Blue this car is fairly rust free and very straight, the only rust beginning is on the bottom of the driver's door. Easily remedied before it becomes a nuisance. Good gaps abound on this car, and it wears good condition brightwork, badging and chrome. Large round bezels at the front of each fender hold a headlight at either side and at the rear of the car tiny fins, a tribute to days of yore, hover above a similar design with simple circular brake lights. An electric razor style grill greets you from the front and holds within single letter emblems that call out D O D G E. The trunk lid not only holds the reverse lights but also a fratzog with 270 in the center, a call out to the trim line of this car. 14" Mopar Rallye wheels are on all corners and give some pizzazz to this ride.
    Interior
Looking much like it came from the factory with a simple blue padded dashboard, original steering wheel, amazing condition blue vinyl split bench seat, matching rear seat and amazing condition door panels. The simplistic dash contains gauges to monitor engine functions, a basic AM radio, standard heater controls and the original push button transmission selector. Blue pile carpet floods the floors, and a light blue headliner is up above. Both appear original and while the carpet has been protected by vinyl mats the headliner does have some staining but remains tight.
    Drivetrain
Much stronger than when it left the factory, a 225ci slant 6 now replaces the 170ci 6 the car was born with. A mid 1970's casting cylinder head was bolted on, not only for the benefits of hardened exhaust seats to be compatible with unleaded fuel, but also to get rid of the pesky spark plug tubes that were leak prone on earlier engines. A mild Mopar Performance camshaft was added, not only to improve power but to improve precious mpg's. This works in conjunction with a circa 1977-1980 Super Six intake manifold and allows the installation of a 2bbl carburetor. This carb is from a mid 80's 318 and has been modified to work without the computer-controlled enrichment solenoid. The 3-speed Torqueflite transmission is original and has been rebuilt with V8 front and rear clutch drums for strength and durability. A 3.23 geared rear axle puts power to the road and compliments the rest of the drivetrain nicely.
    Undercarriage
A pair of torsion bars in the front courtesy of a 340ci V8 powered Dart plus an added front sway bar along with factory rear leaf springs provide a smooth, comfortable and sure footed ride. A dual circuit master cylinder was added for safety along with front disc brakes courtesy of Scarebird while the rears remain drums. An adjustable proportioning valve has also been added and is well hidden but easily accessible on the left trunk hinge bracket. Single exhaust in like new condition snakes its way back through a stock style muffler and keeps things nice and quiet.
    Drivability
A twist of the key and we were off like a prom dress. The Dart provided a great ride, splendid handling, and stop on a dime plus give you change braking. Power was more than adequate, and the drive was like a trip back in time. Well sorted and all buttoned up here folks.
A restored, but mostly original Dart that is built to be driven. Some performance, handling, drivability, and safety upgrades make this car ready to go to any show, cruise or vacation. The highways and backroads are your oyster with this car, either way she's built to handle it all.
